The Power of Scale: Why Size Changes Everything
Scale isn’t just measurement—it’s behaviour. A small panel invites intimacy; your eye scans in breaths. A large canvas reconfigures your body’s relationship to space: you don’t just look; you enter. When I work big, gestures broaden and time stretches; marks record whole arm spans and shifts of weight. Colour fields behave differently, too—hue saturations can either overwhelm or envelop, so I modulate intensity carefully. Large works demand architectural thinking: how does the viewer move across, into, and out of the painting? I like to stage big canvases alongside smaller studies so the conversation between scales becomes audible. Collectors often discover that a piece’s impact isn’t about dimensions alone; it’s about how scale reframes attention and makes emotion palpable.
